What is BaZi?

In the Chinese view a person is never read in isolation, but set back within heaven and earth. The belief is old and plain: at the moment you are born, the cosmos stands in a particular configuration — that year, that solar term, that day and hour each carry their own balance of yin and yang, their own rise and ebb of the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water). The quality of that one moment settles into you. A BaZi chart is the record of it.

It does not read isolated events, but a person’s nature and timing. The heavenly stem of the day pillar is you yourself; the other seven characters appear through their relationship to you — some that nourish you, some that drain or restrain you, some that stand alongside you — as everyone in life has kin, rivals and companions. The luck cycles turn roughly once a decade, carrying that energy onward and marking which part of you each stage brings to light.

The old saying goes: do your utmost, and leave the rest to heaven. Ming (命) is the share you are born with; yun (运), the way it unfolds across a lifetime. BaZi does not settle your wins and losses for you — it only lets you see your own temperament and timing a little sooner. To know your nature is to live it more freely, not to resign to it.
